Trump admin live updates: Judge releases Venezuelan couple accused of being gang members, rips government evidence

President Donald Trump's online store released a 'TRUMP 2028' hat on Thursday after teasing that he could run for president in 2028.

Trump previously addressed speculation about running again in a March phone call with NBC News and said he is "not joking" about a third term, adding, "It is far too early to think about it."

But when asked whether he has been presented with plans to allow him to seek a third term, Trump said, "There are methods which you could do it."

The Constitution's 22nd Amendment states that no one can serve as president for more than two four-year terms.

Democrats seized on the release, posting on their rapid response X account that the hat seems to confirm "his fourth run for president."

President Donald Trump was asked Thursday if he believes Russian President Vladimir Putin is "serious" about wanting peace after deadly strikes on Kyiv this week.

"So we are thinking that, very strongly, that they both want peace, but they have to get to the table," Trump said as he held a lunch with Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Store. "We're waiting a long time. They have to get them to the table. And I think we're going to get peace."

Trump added there is a "lot of very bad blood" but that he hopes the two nations will come to an agreement.

Asked if he has a deadline for peace talks, after warnings that the United States could walk away from negotiations, Trump said he has his "own deadline" but didn't elaborate.

"I have my own deadline, and we want it to be fast. And the prime minister is helping us. He wants it to be fast, too," he said. "And I think everybody in this, you know, at this time in NATO, they want to see this thing happen. So, we have a deadline. And after that, we have a -- we're going to have a very much different attitude. But I think it has a very good chance of getting done."

Trump claimed on Truth Social that he was going to meet with "The Atlantic" editor-in-chief Jeffrey Goldberg on Thursday.

Goldberg revealed last month he was invited to a Signal chat that included national security advisers who were texting plans to attack terrorists in Yemen. Trump has bashed him over the years for his reporting, including an article in which he claimed the president called soldiers "suckers" and "losers."

"I am doing this interview out of curiosity, and as a competition with myself, just to see if it's possible for The Atlantic to be 'truthful,'" Trump claimed in the post.

Goldberg will be joined by Michael Scherer and Ashley Parker, according to the president.

"The Atlantic" has not responded to the post.

Those are the words that a federal judge used Thursday to describe the Trump administration's attempt to cut federal funding from sanctuary cities, an executive order that followed a nearly identical policy during the president's first administration.

In an order, Judge William Orrick of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California said the policy was likely unlawful and blocked the government from freezing federal funding to cities because they have have limited the use of local resources to enforce federal immigration law.

Orrick, who issued a similar order in 2017 blocking Trump from cutting funding to sanctuary cities, said the president's new attempt fails on largely the same grounds, writing that Trump's 2025 executive order is likely "arbitrary and capricious" and "contrary to the Constitution."

Trump's attempt to cut sanctuary city funding was challenged by a group of 16 cities and counties, including San Francisco, which argued the policy was unlawful and likely to cause irreparable harm.

Orrick agreed, writing the funding freeze "causes them irreparable injury in the form of budgetary uncertainty, deprivation of constitutional rights, and undermining trust between the Cities and Counties and the communities they serve."
